I'd much rather have a my pups slightly fat than slightly thin. If a pup gets an infection which leads to sickness and diorrhea, they can dehydrate and lose weight to a very dangerous degree in a matter of hours. If they've got a bit extra, they have a little safety net. Obviously they shouldn't be obese, but you need to be sensible about these things.
Our pups are now 6 weeks and on 4 meals a day. Mum still feeds them once a day, but she has very little milk now and it's more of a gesture on her behalf.
