I thought i make for you guys a little text with the importanst barf rules. the one's of you, who have a barf book will know this all allready, but maybe here is someone who wants to start with barf and is very unsure.
Please feed him twice a day. Mornings after your walk and evenings after the last walk!
Here is a list, what you can feed your dog:
Meat:
• beef
• chicken
• lamb (no bowel/intestinal and stomach)
• horse (no organs)
• rabbit (no bowels/intestinal)
• game (no wild boar and no stomach)
• fish (whole raw fish, fish fillet, fish head)
Bones:
Only raw bones, because cooked or roasted bones splinter and can hurt dogs!
Bones have lots of calcium, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes!
Please don’t feed long bones!
Some dogs get bone poop (very hard and light) from eating bones. try carefully and see what happens. if he gets bone poop, don’t feed him very often bones, better to take calcium preparations or mix him eggshell in his food.
Vegetables:
Don’t feed Solanaceae like potatos, tomatoes, peppers, red pepper/chili, aubergine (eggplant-madapple), avocado
Don’t feed pulses like peas, lentils, beans and faba beans
Feed less of cabbage like white cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, savoy cabbage, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, kohlrabi (cabbage turnip)
Don’t feed onion and garlic in high doses – they are poison
Fruits:
Don’t feed elderberry, carambola (starfruit), grapes (and raisins), quinces
Oil:
You can give codfish oil, cod liver oil, fish oil, hemp oil, garlic oil, coconut oil, salmon oil, linseed oil (lax seed oil), canola oil, walnut oil, wheat germ oil
Herbs:
You can give basil, savory, borage, dill, tarragon, chervil, lovage, majoram, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, chives, thyme, lemon palm
Milk products:
You can give butter, butter milk, clabber, cream cheese, cottage cheese, yoghurt, kefir, milk without lactose, cottage/curt, cream, sour cream
Nuts:
You can give cashew nuts, peanuts, walnuts, coconuts, hazel nuts, almond
Follow some rules:
- Fruits and vegetables (even salad) needs to be pureed
- Once or twice a week a raw egg (whole egg, but never give only egg white)
- Once a week organs or heart
- Once a week a pinch sea salt
- Once or twice a week one tsp oil
- Twice a week one tsp honey
This are the most important things about barfing a dog. Barf is easy, is fun, and is the most healthy food for dogs! your dog will enjoy it
Everything else, you will read when you get a book about barf, but you can start with this rules und do’s and don’ts !!! don’t be scared to start, and if you want to know something else, just ask me or the other barfer in this forum.
