No this does not mean she is rejecting them, when my cat had kittens, she would walk away from them and take breaks alot. In fact she tended to stay out of the nest when she wasn't feeding them.
My cat also wanted to go outside, I know if your cat likes to go out then its hard to watch her crying at the door (been there!) but its in her and the kittens best interest not to let her out.
If the kittens cry and your cat does not go back to them, then you may have a problem. It is always best to get forumla milk from the vet and have it on hand just incase. Many vets will buy it back off you if you don't need it anyway.
