I would never advocate keeping them apart, since you will been compounding the problem.
I would however, suggest supervision until they achieve some sense of harmony. A bitch and a dog is a great combination, and usually the bitch will remain dominant
Great choice of dog by the way. I have owned GSD's for 25 years and they are the best (but then I am biased
