hi i would suggest that if you do go back to barf dont mix with commercial foods as the balance wouldnt be good it should be one or other and as fo a older dog on it then all i can say is my eldest is 10 he loves it and a friend of mine a vets nurse she has her 14 year old shepperd on it so you should be ok, unless he has no teeth lol, but even then he can still eat raw
