I am actually arguing principal here and do not pretend to have all the answers. Rescue is emotive and I am not in favour of an increase in numbers of dogs but would argue for the replacement of existing breeds. After all how many of us need to protect our flocks from large predators?
As to money surely an expensive dog is less likely to be abandoned than a cheap one?
If you make a crossbreed from two healthy parents and raise them well you have done all you can but surely this is not too different from pure breed dogs?
Above all though you must realise that people WANT these dogs and so they will happen, albeit with varying degrees of success, because that is the sort of world we live in. You can argue all you like about the rights and wrongs but put J-Lo on screen with one or one in an ad and the demand is created.
The original question was do we need new breeds and it is my belief that the perfect dog breed is not out there yet.

Well I think I own 5 perfect dog breeds !!!!!
