I personally wouldn't want anything more than maybe a common distant relative. That is because I am still fairly new to the breed and I don't feel I have anywhere near enough knowledge of all the bloodlines etc to even comtemplate closer breeding. Plus, Goldens have such a large gene pool, it is easy to outcross.

I have no problem with inbreeding or line breeding if people ABSOLUTELY know what they are doing. Contrary to popular belief, it will not create any problems that weren't already there, but it can highlight problems that are there very easily. It can also be a good way to improve certain traits in a breed.
