Unfortunately, we can be consumed in our own grief, completely forgetting the other pet who has been left behind.

This happened when one of our two dogs was put to sleep. We were so wrapped up in our own grief, that we did not notice Luke pining.

I would suggest that you get another cat, preferably a younger one, for companionship. Sorry, to hear of your loss.
