Re: Book Wish List

My thoughts are:
  • The Perfect Puppy: Britain's Number One Puppy Care Book by Gwen Bailey (this is great, def buy this one - you prob know most of it anyway but it puts it all in one place)
  • Oh Behave!: Dogs from Pavlov to Premack to Pinker by Jean Donaldson (this one is a nice to have, but not really particularly helpful before getting a pup - see comment in my above post on this one)
  • Other End of the Leash by Patricia B McConnell
  • Canine Body Language: A Photographic Guide: Interpreting the Native Language of the Domestic Dog by Brenda Aloff (definintely either this one or the below - make sure you get the newest version as i think the one below has a new edition out with better piccies)
  • Canine Behavior: A Photo Illustrated Handbook by Barbara Handelman

Which of the above two would you recommend? (it seems both are great - i have ordered both after having a quick flick at the library)

  • A Dog Who's Always Welcome: Assistance and Therapy Dog Trainers Teach You How to Socialize and Train Your Companion Dog by Lorie Long (havent read this but sounds like it could be a good one)
  • Dogs Are from Neptune by Jean Donaldson
  • The Cautious Canine: How to Help Dogs Conquer Their Fears by Patricia Mcconnell
  • Mine!: A Practical Guide to Resource Guarding in Dogs by Jean Donaldson (this is excellent - see comments in above post)

  • Chill Out Fido!: How to Calm Your Dog (Dogwise Training Manual) by Nan Kene Arthur (this is good - you will know most of the exercises in it, but nice to have them all in one place - good for a high-drive/energy breed)
  • Click to Calm: Healing the Aggressive Dog (Karen Pryor Clicker Book) by Emma Parsons (good but not as fun as Control Unleashed which i think would do a lot of the same things re calming dogs)
  • Fight!: A Practical Guide to the Treatment of Dog-dog Aggression by Jean Donaldson

If you were to buy one of these three, which would you recommend?

  • Control Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt (sadly not available on Amazon) (absolutely excellent - 100% get this one - i think i got mine from canine concepts...will have a look)
  • Barking: The Sound of a Language (Dogwise Training Manual) by Turid Rugaas
  • On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas
  • Playtime for Your Dog: Keep Him Busy Throughout the Day by Christina Sondermann
  • You Bake 'em Dog Biscuits Cookbook: More Than 50 Tasty Recipes That Your Dog Will Beg for by Janine Adams
  • 101 Dog Tricks: Step-by-step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog by Kyra Sundance (these types of books are good - a lot are very similar so anything like this will keep you busy and handy to have for a rainy day)
