Re: Dog Treat Help please
Its always advisable to feed what the breeders have been giving , call them tonight to make sure you have his food before he comes tomorrow , if you search this site you will find previouse posts where food has been a much debated topic , if your not sure as to the quality of his food you can always ask and post on here later to get some advice , if the food he has been fed on isnt very good you must still feed that but you may change it gradually over a period of about 10 days gradually lessening his old food adding in the new food till you are completely new food . A change too quick will result in your pup having the runs because of the change in his diet . treats are best avoided at the moment and as said before use his kibble if needed to reward . always check the feeding guidelines on the back of the food as to daily allowance some foods will differ depending on quality but best to split his daily allowance into 4 small feeds then as he gets older you can reduce to feeding 3 times and eventually at about 6 months to 2 times a day .
The guidelineds on the pack are just that some foods will state too much and so adjust accordingly you dont want a fat puppy lol. He may have the runs for a day or so due to change of enviroment and being nervouse but he should soon settle , dont be worried if he isnt interested in feeding for a while he may just be getting used to his new home , but definately avoid anything else at the moment treat wise till at least 3 months and even then it may just be as good to take tip bits out of his daily allowance .
Good luck with your new addition any further questions dont be afraid to ask we will all help at the thought of seeing new pups photo .
