Sorry,but someones been telling you porkies,that same story has been going around the hobby for years on end,and I'm afraid it has absolutely no basis of fact behind it.Snakes are opportunistic hunters and certainly do not 'size up' their prey before hand.
I will add that allowing ANY snake to free roam is daft,and apart from anything else would be detrimental to the snakes health as most,certainly all of the giant species(pythons,Boa's,Scrubs and Anancondas) require climate controlled housing or they die.
