Re: Katie has a friend ...

Shes actually jack russell x gsd/bc but she's about a big as a lab. She was attacked by a neighbours rescued white staffie, so anything staffie shaped and she's behind my legs, she was just outside my mums garden when it happened. Neighbours dog who'd met Katie a few times and didn't appear aggressive shot out of the front door and attacked her whilst she was on the lead. Took all her confidence away, she wouldn't even go out to pee at one point. My mum was gonna have her pts as she didn't have any quality of life like that, but Katie hadn't done anything wrong so I asked her if I could try her at my house. After about 4 visits each becoming longer each time Katie decided on the last time she wasn't going home - when I got up to leave my mums she came with me, so her bed, bowl etc; came to stay. All this happened 3 years ago and she'll only now walk past the end of my mums street without worry. My toddler wants to take katie to grandmas as he takes toys round there and wants to take his friend there but I dont think she'd cope with my mums 2 dogs even though she grew up with them, when we meet my dad on walks with them she hides behind my legs and is trying to get away. Hopefully as she's played with her new friend when we meet the other dogs (a lurcher and a Cairn) out and about she won't be too worried. It really ruined a very confident and outgoing dog and turned it into basically a nervous wreck. The neighbour eventually got rid of the staffie to a member of his family and I've heard that it has gone on to attack a couple more dogs If only they'd rehomed the staffie with someone who knew a lot more about dogs than he did (things like don't have your front door open when you've not got any fencing around your front garden and your dog can escape into the street) I don't think any attack would have happened.
