I also have been using the bottle as a rattle to distract sunny and correct him but he doesn't take any notice of it.
when he follows you, it is a good sign that he is settling down and knows that he is a follower not a leader.

as for the rattle bottle, you dont want to distract him with it and only use it when he displays unwanted behaviour, such as barking at strangers and men, pulling on his lead, coming forward when your eating, that sort of unwanted behaviour!
