Thinking about getting a new puppy/dog? You should read this first!
Hi,
So I am assuming that you've opened this thread because you're thinking about getting a puppy or a dog? You might even have decided on the breed (or rescue center) you would like. Maybe you already have a cat or a goldfish or similar pet but feel like it's time to won a "real companion"?
Well, I (and everyone else who is about to post on this thread) was in the same position once. And we're here to tell you why you SHOULDN'T get a dog or a puppy.
Why are we doing this? FOR YOU!
Every year, people just like you get a dog or a puppy with all of the good intentions that go with it, yet EVERY year, thousands of dogs and puppies (just like the one you're planning on getting, and possibly even the one you do end up getting) end up in rescue centers, victims of road accidents or euthanised (i.e. killed by a vet at the request of the owner). It's no good thinking that this won't be you, because frankly; that's what everyone else thought when they got their dog! So obviously, people end up changing their minds (or their circumstances change it for them), and you're not immune from that. Only a fool would think they were.
We're going to ignore all of the so called 'good points' about having a dog in this thread...you obviously know what they are, otherwise you wouldn't be here.
In this thread, we're going to discuss the truth. The stuff that can wear you down and make you feel like giving up...and then eventually doing just that!
In each and every reply over the next few pages, you will experience one good reason from each member why you shouldn't have a dog. Their experiences shouldn't be taken lightly. It's our real lives with our real dogs...not the fantasy you are imagining right now. If our dogs were humans, you could say that we've been down the aisle, honeymooned, bought the first house, lost the first job, had the visits from the bailiffs, discovered the first affair (as well as the first hidden credit card bill) and are about to experience the second shoplifting teenage son as you are still giddily hearing "Here comes the bride"!
The replies in this thread are the awful truth about owning a dog. We hope it helps you avoid making a mistake that both you (and your new pet) end up regretting!
