Re: Staffy's in rescue

I volunteer for Rochdale Dog Rescue, and the amount of staffies in are incredible; all of them are real sweethearts. They are harder to find rescue spaces for as most rescues are already chock full of their own staffies so they sit waiting patiently in our kennels.

We are full to bursting at the minute and if you look on the website link earlier the vast majority of dogs are staffies or crosses, with a couple of rottie's in there.

Here is a link our website.. the one provided earlier goes to the forum so people may not have been able to view it?

We do not rehome with young children, primarily because our dogs have come from a pound environment and we do not know their backgrounds before they came into our care in most cases. This is also bourne of experience whereby we have had knowledge of the dogs backround and parents have assured us the younger children are OK around dogs and then the dogs bounce back into our care as its not working. We do all think staffies make fantastic family dogs - mine just adores children and is as bombproof as a dog can be around them. He would be way too bouncy tho for toddlers even tho he wouldn't harm them on purpose.

I don't live in the Rochdale area, but my local pound in the West mids is licenced for 70 dogs of which last time I was up there 61 were staffies and crosses. They do rehome and also look for places at other rescues but with odds like those its a constantly loosing battle.

At least the ones we see in rescue are the 'lucky' ones. So many don't even make it out the pounds after their 7 days with no where to go and no one to love them.
