Just found an ingredient list for Pets at Home Salmon Adult Cat Food:

Fresh Salmon and Chicken, Rice, Poultry Meat Meal, Maize, Fish Meal, Animal Fat, Egg Powder, Brewers Yeast, Maize Gluten Meal, Barley, Poultry Digest, Sugar Beet Pulp, Sodium Chloride, Cranberry, Potassium Chloride, Methionine, Citrus Extract, Yucca Extract, Rosemary Extract, With Antioxidant EC Additives (Vitamin E and Vitamin C) Contains Tocopherol Rich Extracts Of Natural Origin Vitamin E and Vitamin C As EC Permitted Antioxidant.

Notice that the first ingredient is really two combined into one so that it can appear first on the list and that Maize is broke down into two different ingredients so it can appear lower on the list.

Fresh Salmon and Chicken are good quality ingredients but both inclusive of water content making them less dominant ingredients than they appear.

Rice is non-descript and suggests low quality. Rice is only really a filler so it is a bit shocking that it appears second on the list and when you consider the first ingredient is two combined and inclusive of water, rice probably makes up a large proportion of the food!

Maize is also low quality, difficult for cats (and dogs) to digest and is associated with allergies. It's broken down into two ingredients to make it appear lower on the list than it really should be.

Poultry meat meal is also non-descript - what poultry is it from!?!

Sodium Chloride is basically added table salt and is used to cover up rancid meat and fats.

The others I've highlighted in red are either by-products, low quality or added for flavour with no nutritional value.

Barley is about the only ingredient other than chicken and salmon worth mentioning!

So to sum up; no Pets At Home own brand isn't a good food and it's got a very disceptive ingredients list.

Remember cats are carnivores and when looking at which cat food I think it's important to make that the first consideration. Cat food should be primarly meat not grain/cereal based in my opinion.
