Re: How to give a Worm Tablet to our Cat

I posted about giving cats pills today actually, I've edited it a bit to apply to you

Be confident and try and do this quickly. If the cat is very difficult to manage you could cuddle her up tight in a towel like a baby so she doesn't scratch you or leg it, otherwise just perhaps sit down and have her between your knees, tilt her head right back, gently but firmly squeeze either side of the jawbone, you may have to prise a finger and thumb between her teeth at the sides of the mouth ie the palm of your hand is kind of over her forehead, keep bottom jaw open with a finger and try and make sure you can see right down the thoat (tongue's not in the way) take aim and drop the pill as far down as poss. keep head tilted up now close her mouth with your fingers and stroke her throat downwards to encourage it to go down. Might help if you coat it with butter . good luck xxx

And next time you get wormers I can recommend Panacur paste for ease of use and there are other syrups and spot ons on the market. I think that there's one strain of parasitic worms that panacur doesn't deal with. Ask your vet about that.

Here's a pic I found.

Alternatively yes you could try grinding it into very fine powder with a pestle and mortar and mixing it in well, but she may well repay you by leaving the food.

Ha having been used to a houseful of cats all my life growing up, when I first wormed a dog I tried the "down the neck" method. Absolute fail! They are 10 x more wiley than cats at spitting out pills and it was exasperating. It took me hours and wasting at least 3 pills to suddenly figure out that if I just offered it in my hand like a yummy treat or even chucked it on the floor they would just yomp it up! lol x doesn't work with cats though.
