The padding is what prevents sore's. Although if the bandage (the open weave material) was pulled too tight, or placed too loosely, this will cause problems either to circulation or throught slippage.

Was it cotton wool?

Nurses are usually miles better at placing dressings, as that is one of the many things they are trained to do. However it isnt as easy as it looks.

Foot bandaging is an art i have mastered, after 8 years or so of constantly having to dress Oscars foot.
