They probably did this so the owner couldnt come back for the expenses, if she was actually pregant, they were just covering their backs to prevent a long drawn out battle afterwards if for instance if the bitch died in labour, the owner could have gone stating she didnt know the dog was pregant, she wants her money back or she wants another dog for free, or she wants all the vet bills paid, rescue have to do disclaimers especially if the dogs are strays because more often than not you have no medical history, if they knew she was in season they knew there was a possibility of pregnancy but if I am right they didnt know for a fact she was pregant, but that dosnt mean they wont take the pups and be able to rehome them.
