They can live for up to 20 years. I think Charlotte is between 5 and 10 years now. It's hard to tell. She's probably not even female!
She seems to be quite relaxed and is happy for me to put my hand in to change her water, and put crickets in for her. She was very co-operative when we tapped her into a jar to change her substrate. I don't think she would bite but she is a b**** for hair flciking! She has done it twice, not to me, but to a friend who lifted the lid and startled her.
If she was to bite, it wouldn't hurt too much, just some puncture wounds. However it is quite common to be allergic to the usually harmless venom.
When she flicks hairs, she rubs her back legs on her abdomen and flicks a few hairs.It isn't poisonous or anything, feels like an itchy nettlesting.
