I have pretty much gone with what suits the animal rather than a 'people' or 'pet' name.

The spaniel is Max... an 'either or' type name, the lab came with the name Poppy and she was 5.

Mabel is an old fashioned people name, not sure how Mabel ended up with it, mostly cos it rhymed with 'table' I think, she was sat on one at the time.

Indy is after Indiana Jones, because he's handsome and adventurous and gets into weird situations.

Misha is the Russian pet form of Michael and he is named after a lynx companion I have in an online game *blush*
