Re: Hand rearing Chihuahua losing weight

Toy breeds drop in weight extremely quick as tiny pups, if you can at least put drops of the welpi down him every hour or so this should help keep his weight balanced if you can get him passed a week old he may start trying to suckle by his self, prem puppies tend to be a little backwards when they are born and suckling tend to switch on like a light bulb about a week later we had similar problems with the smallest in our litter one day he was struggling to feed the next he was suckling like he had always done it.
Use a syringe and just drop the milk into him as often as you can and keep putting him in with your bitch so she can stimulate him which will also helo him to realise what he should be doing.

As I said I have a friend who live just up the road from me who has been breeding and showing chi's for many many years she may be able to help you too.

take care

Sarah
