Apparently (just googled it) it is because hamsters are considered an "Extreme threat" to the environment if they were to escape and start a wild colony. Clearly it was thought out - wild boars are only considered a "serious threat". So if you see a hamster coming towards you run, if you see a boar coming at you take a picture

Thanks for that As an Aussie I spose I should have already known that Oh well! We do have some unique and rare wildlife here so I guess they know best
