Me too, I always feel bad saying we got Effie from a pet shop, but we were left with little other choice. We were refused a rescue kitten, due to the fact that we live close to a busy main road. None of the rescue centre staff actually visited to assess the road, so we're still unsure how they reached this conclusion. Even when we explained we would keep our kitty as an indoor cat, this too was refused.
In the end, we found that a local, small, family-run pet shop had kittens available so we went to check it out. The animals all seemed well cared for, and we were confident that the owner of the pet shop put their well-being first. Whilst you can never know for certain, we just got a good feeling from there, so we decided to go for it.
I suppose our story goes to show that there are some caring pet shops around, it's just a shame that it's not the majority.
