make sure there are plenty of toys for them to play with when you go out and i would definitely set up a recorder of some sort (ideally audio & video) so you can see exactly what is going on,

I can't imagine a dog barking for 6 hours every day.

Another good point from someone is to wait outside the house for 10 minutes to see what happens.
