Mine all preferred the Cat It water dome, but if you live in a hard water area, the motor just doesn't last that long, and the filters need changing far quicker than they say they do.
Cat It have a new one, that looks like a tall bowl and the water circulates within the bowl. Less fiddly cleaning, but still fresh moving water. I am tempted to try a few of those. Fresh and Clear Cat Drinking Fountain by Cat It | Pets at Home
Water fountains aside, if your cat normaly has a dry diet I would change that gradually over to wet and or fresh once he is well. I would also ask your vet about CystAid, that helps soothe and repair the inflammed bladder and urethra.
