aw I am so sorry. How stressful
After a week in your house he still might hover around when he gets hungry, just when you see him don't rush for him just quietly talk to him and sit down, when he gets close enough grab him and put him inside for a big cuddle. He will come back just be patient, and I would look for him around the area and tell people in the street as well.
