with our feral cat we clip her claws before we take her to the vets, just wrapping her tight in a towel and popping out one paw at a time... takes 2 people for comfort, one to hold angry towel wrapped cat and one to clip.

We only do her front claws as she keeps her back ones fairly short by herself.
