My uncle came over to mine not long after I adopted Maddy. She had previously been starved, and when she first came home had to be taught not to steal. He smacked her quite hard when she stole, I flipped out at him and told him he wasn't allowed back in my house again.

I have since forgiven him. However she is MY dog and its MY place to discipline her in the way I want. I'm pleased to say, I've not smacked her once and she no longer steals.

Old school I think don't think anything of smacking dogs.
