I'm a believer in like for like justice... whatever they did to the animal should be done to them.

I'm lucky in that my cats like fireworks, but as indoor only their experience is watching them through a window. However I do think that fireworks should be event only... they are noisy, annoying and dangerous, hundreds of animals, children, teens and adults are injured each year due to stupidity, cruelty or just old fashioned accidents... it would save the medical profession a *lot* of time and money if firework sales were banned.
