Ah, now according to the birman cat club the 'blue' gene is a misnomer and it is really a dilute gene - so dilute seal is blue, dilute chocolate is lilac and dilute red is cream. Blue is a very confusing term that (in my experience of genetic teaching/ learning) is incorrect but used on a regualr basis instead of dilute.

i.e cream is red and dilute based
