You do need your dog to be measured before competing, but if there is measuring at the show you are going to, you can still compete.

Large dogs only need measuring once, all the others have to be measured 12 - 24 months after their first measurement.

p.s. You do need to get your Kennel Club Record Book prior to being measured, as the measurers will make the entry in it. Go to the KC website to order one, they are only a few pounds.
