I saw on crufts a newfie who was helping his owner around the house after she had had surgery and became less able to do day to day chors . Do you live on your own isnt there someone who could help you out with him while you recover rather than get rid of him , A dog walker would be an idea maybe while you couldnt get out . Yes having him neutered would calm him but he is still only young and so will be a little excitable even after , He sounds like he could do with some training classes to make him easier to handle , If you really need to re - home him maybe you could get in touch with the newfie rescue places and maybe as an alternative to permanently giving him up you could get someone to temporarily foster him so that you could get him back later .Either way good luck would like to help but ive already got 2 labs so no spare sofa lol
