things like sit, leave, away, down are easily said and will be able to give control not least give the dog direction on what behaviour is appropriate - which is what it needs first - the hands of someone experienced with spaniels.
Or as other have said - rehoming it will just pass and probably escalate the issues to another unsuspecting family
