Once happened to me too, we were left with a bitch puppy, we socialised and trained her, and at a year old through a friend an ideal home came up for her, if it had not she would have stayed with us.
Her new owners regularly email to let me know how she is getting on, I'm glad we waited for the right people to come along, she is a lovely dog and has made her owners very happy.
