Seems like a waste of money to me. I house mine in a glass fish tank, with a plastic lid, with lots of holes drilled in, but I have kept them in £5 storage boxes. They serve them just as well.

It's very natural for a snail to want to burrow - you should allow this. Not providing soil is not catering for one of their needs.
If you don't want eggs, keep your snails separate. If you want to keep snails together, but you don't want lots of babies, simply search for the eggs on a regular basis, place them into a sandwich bag and freeze.
