Regarding flyball, it varies from club to club what age they actually allow dogs at training sessions but most will start before 12 months. You can teach commands like "turn" and "over" on small jumps. Get him ball obsessed, so he'll fetch a stationary ball on command and teach him a solid "drop" command.

Dogs have to be 12 months to compete starters (low hurdles, enclosed by netting) and 18 months to compete in open.
