Depends where you get the snake from and it's personality I suppose, petshop snakes you can garuntee will be nervous, I have my own hatchlings in a larger enclosure which are far from nervous lol. Snakes from breeders will be a little more docile than the petshop variety.

You can go with plastic to start off with if you want though.

I use aspen bedding for mine and yes, remove mess as you see it but you will need to do a proper clean out and disinfect atleast once a month.
