Well being bigger, it makes sense. They are a lot meatier than crickets too.

If you drop a cricket into the viv, it will more than likely quickly scuttle off. A locust tends to stay quite still and then hop into the air, not really going that far.
Even without these pro's, just the fact they don't tend to escape like crickets do should be enough to make anyone use locusts.
