I would take the pup with you. I have a mother and son who sleep just like that together, but, when seperated they are just as happy to be getting individual attention, I think you will be surprised just how much the bond with you will increase when there is just the two of you.

At 8 months he will adjust as he is still a baby and they will always have the bond on visits.

he has a very good mum though that you are even considering leaving him behind for his happiness.
